Dior kicks off the Paris Fashion Week show with live archery on the runway

Dior hit the mark with a shooting range, with a skilled display of archery, at Paris Fashion Week.

Italian artist and archer Sofia Ginevra Giannì, better known by her abbreviated name SAGG Napoli, wowed audiences in the City of Light on Tuesday by shooting arrows down the catwalk under a structure of her own creation, a transparent corridor adorned with pieces of lyrics from various Italian artists, covering the length of the track.

“Building a strong mind and a strong body may be the greatest work I have ever done,” reads one of the installation’s quotes.

Napoli – modeled in a Dior ensemble consisting of a gladiator-style skirt, one-shoulder tank and knee-high leather boots – continued to shoot arrows at the bullseye down the runway during the models’ procession to the Musée Rodin.

Jennifer Garner, 52, who sat in the front row, was in awe of Napoli’s skill, according to footage circulating online, in which the actress can be seen eagerly recording the archer’s performance in shock and awe. Meanwhile, singers Rosalía and Jisoo also watched in awe.

The performance – which was hailed online as “the best concept ever” and compared to The Hunger Games and the show’s lead character Katniss Everdeen – served as a fitting backdrop for creative director Maria Grazie Chirui’s sports presentation .

“A modern Amazon, SAGG Napoli sees fashion as a visual attribute, an affirmation of its athletic form,” Dior’s website continues, nodding to the reimagined design of the 1952 Dior Amazone dress revived in the spring/summer collection 2025.

“It deals with one of the oldest disciplines – archery – which requires the harmonization of body and mind.”

Chirui told press at the show that she was inspired by Wonder Woman and Diana of Versailles, known as the goddess of the hunt, as “sport was an integral part of Christian Dior’s fashion and couture universe”.

“My obsession is to make pieces that are easy to wear, using technology but also fashion knowledge,” Chiuri said, via Harper’s Bazaar, a contrast from the brand’s long history of making clothes for “women that move the body less”.

Dior’s website added: “This year, body, fashion and sport are words that, especially thanks to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, have (re)given meaning to gender equality, inclusion, respect and acceptance of one’s limits.”

The looks – which drew mixed reviews from celebs to critics – included outfits such as tracksuits, jackets, moto jackets and lace-up sneaker-boot hybrids, as well as patterns like checkered racing stripes. Chiuri also revived the Dior Sport logo of the 60s, which, according to The Guardian, was last seen on Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ ski outfit.

“The rise of sports has changed the entire body language of women, and therefore fashion,” Chiuri said, via The Guardian.
